MGT 3000 Group Project Instructions

Group Project

To encourage the development of remote, asynchronous collaboration skills, you’ll work in a small group to virtually create a slide deck responding to a prompt. You will then “present” the slide deck by recording narration of the presentation using your preferred technology. The deck can have a maximum of 10 content slides and a maximum time length of 10 minutes for the recorded presentation.

Prompt

You will create a presentation that will be viewed by the Mayor and Town Council of Boone, North Carolina. (Note: This is a hypothetical scenario. The Mayor and Town Council will not be viewing your presentations, though if your group feels you would like to offer the Mayor and Town Council the opportunity to view your presentation, we can work on a way to offer it to them.)

The purpose of the presentation is to inform the Mayor and Town Council of the major ethical, sustainability, and diversity issues involved in managing mountain bike trail recreation opportunities in Boone and the surrounding area.

Instructions

Create a narrated slide presentation (maximum 10 minutes and 10 slides) that will inform the Mayor and Town Council of the following:

1. List three key stakeholders who are affected by and/or could affect mountain bike management decisions in the region.

  1. List the key stakeholders and describe each stakeholder’s goals and ways that can influence policymaking to achieve those goals. Find such information in peer-reviewed articles, published position papers (such as local, state and federal government reports, industry position papers), reputable media accounts and the like.
  2. Who is influential on mountain bike management, and why are they influential?
  3. What are the implications of the influence of these stakeholders for how the Boone Mayor and Town Council should manage mountain bike recreation?

For background to identify key stakeholders, see the following as well as conducting your own searches for information:

2. State an ethical business issue related to mountain bike management that is likely to generate controversy due to differing values and preferences among the three stakeholders you identified in your answer to Question 1.

  1. Identify the stakeholder(s) that care about the issue and each stakeholder’s ethical position(s) on the issue.
  2. Describe which stakeholders might disagree on the ethics of management decisions and explain why they might disagree.

3. State a sustainable business issue that is important for the Mayor and Town Council to consider in decision-making about mountain bike management.

  1. Explain why the issue is important to incorporate into decision-making.
  2. Explain which stakeholder of the five identified in Question 1 will care most about the issue.
  3. For that stakeholder, explain what its position will be on the sustainability issue and why you believe that will be its position.

For background on this question, see the following sources:

4. State an inclusive business issue the Mayor and Town Council should consider in decision-making about mountain bike management.

  1. Explain the issue and why it is important.
  2. Explain which stakeholder of the five you identified in Question 1 will care most about the inclusion issue.
  3. Explain what that stakeholder’s position will likely be on the inclusive business issue related to managing mountain bike recreation.

For background on this question, see the following:

5. Make a recommendation for how the Mayor and Town Council can manage the issue of mountain bike recreation opportunities.

6. Discuss the limitations of your research.

What aspects of your research would improve with more work, if you had more time and resources?
